Biography for Stephen Edwards

Born in Indianapolis, Stephen Edwards started life as a city kid. At an early age his family moved to the country and rural life on a small farm. It was there that he developed a strong sense of work ethic values that he still considers invaluable.

Edwards has shown in many juried exhibits including the Indiana Heritage Arts Exhibition, Watercolor Society of Indiana, and the Indiana State Fair. He has won several awards in the Hoosier Salon, National Wildlife Artists, and Indiana Artist Club Exhibitions as well as many other national and regional exhibits. He is a member of the above groups as well as being the co-founder of the Watercolor Society of Indiana. He also has served as a juror of selection and awards for several exhibits. He belongs to the Transparent Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, and the American Watercolor Society all of which are national in their membership.

His goal in his work is to try to connect with his past and those things that are of interest to him. Though known for painting detailed works, he still likes to add the design and composition of the abstract in his works. His more contemporary works are generally abstractions of nature, who he considers to be the master artist of all. He feels if he can just capture a small part the essence he sees in nature; then he has accomplished what he set out to put down on paper.
