HCAA's Captured Light Application

The Hamilton County Artist Association (HCAA) and its sponsors, proudly present the annual Captured Light Photography Exhibit & Competition at the Birdie Gallery located at 195 S. 5th Street, Noblesville, IN 46060. The Captured Light Photography Exhibit and Competition is open to all photographers in the Hamilton County and all contiguous counties. If you wish to be included for the 2025 show, please complete the application below. The application must be received by the HCAA Captured Light committee NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 24, 2025. We encourage you to read the rules and register below.

Important Dates

  • Deadline for Entry: September 24th, 2025 at noon

  • Drop off images at the HCAA Gallery: Saturday, September 27th from 5:30pm-7:30pm

  • Awards announcements and opening reception: Friday, October 3rd from 6:00-8:00pm

  • People’s Choice Announcement & Award: Friday, November 7th 6pm-8pm

  • Display dates at the HCAA Gallery: Saturdays between October 4th and November 22nd from 10am-1pm​

  • Pick up images: November 22nd from 1pm-3pm

Requirements


  • All entries must be the original work of the photographer entering the competition.

  • The longest outside dimension on the framed or wrapped entry cannot exceed 32 inches.

  • All entries must be provided with a hanging wire attached to the frame with “D-rings.” Entries not securely prepared will be disqualified.

  • Photographs with mats but not in frames or not gallery wrapped will not be accepted.

  • Each entry must be clearly labeled on the upper left-hand corner of the back with name, address, telephone number and image title.

  • No photographer-identifying information may appear on the front of the photograph (however, a name can be masked by tape or Post-It if possible).

  • Depending on the total number of images submitted, not all images may be hung.

  • Images must remain in the exhibit until the pick-up date unless extenuating circumstances allow otherwise. Arrangements must be made to defer a pickup past the pick-up date. Images left after December 31st become the property of the HCAA.All work must be original and completed by the artist within the last two years. Signed and numbered prints of the artist are allowed. Only work representing what was juried in may be shown in the show. Example: If you submit the application and images as a jeweler, you cannot also hang paintings.

  • Photographic work must be self-printed from the artist's original negatives or digitally mastered by the artist before printing.

Prizes

  • Photographer Michael Jack will be jurying this year's show and will select the Best of Show, Best Monochrome, Best Color, Best Film, and Best Creative/Altered. The winners will receive a cash prize.

  • We will also have a People's Choice award that will be based upon the work that receives the most individual votes in the month of October. One vote per person per visit to the HCAA Gallery during gallery hours. Invite your friends to join you at the reception and to stop by and check out the show during Saturday gallery hours (10am-1pm).

  • Additional prizes may be provided based upon entries.

Sales


  • HCAA will charge a 20% fee to HCAA members and 25% to non-HCAA members for images sold at the exhibit. Checks will be mailed at the conclusion of the show.

Entry Fees

  • $10/image or $25 for three images, payable to the Hamilton County Artists’ Association.

  • Entry fee is waived for all HCAA juried members.
