Description
As a mother of two, artist Sabrina Zhou's time for Plein Air painting is rare—but her eyes are always open. She pays attention to the light, the shapes, and the emotional pull of a scene. She absorbs it, memorizes it, and later—armed with memory and a few key reference photos—she brings it to life in her studio. In this two-day workshop, Sabrina will share how she transforms inspiration into finished landscape paintings using a method she calls “subtraction”—seeing what matters and letting go of what doesn’t. This workshop is perfect for painters who want to move beyond copying a photo and instead create artwork that captures a feeling, a memory, and a sense of place. Materials List: - computer (optional) - reference photos - acrylic or oil paints - mixing plates or palette - watercolor paper (for color study and practice) - canvases - flat head brushes - water container (for acrylic painters) - solvent (for oil painters) - paper towels - art tape Note: Sabrina will demonstrate with oil. Date: Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27 Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm each day Age Requirements: Adults (18+) with beginning to intermediate experience Artist Bio: Sabrina Zhou is a classically trained painter with a BFA and MFA, dedicated to a lifelong pursuit of art. Her work spans still life, landscape, and portraiture, with a focus on representational painting that captures both beauty and mystery. Through careful composition, use of light, and attention to texture and space, Sabrina creates paintings that invite viewers into quiet moments of harmony and depth. Her signature use of dramatic, neutral backgrounds allows her subjects to glow with a sense of air and atmosphere. More than just arranging beautiful objects, Sabrina seeks to convey serenity, balance, and joy in each piece.
