First person laid to rest at Riverside

The 1824 stone is on the south side of the drive just before the fork, when you enter off Cherry Street. The stone was purchased by the Cemetery’s Board of Trustees in 1945. No other documentation survives as to why they bought it or settled on that year. A few years ago, we found credible evidence that the first burial (Lawrence Willison) was in 1825, so that makes this year the bicentennial of the cemetery!
