Pocket-Sized Adventure in a Box

Amanda Russo

Amanda Russo has shared her passion for creativity, discovery, self-expression, and risk-taking as the grade K-6 art teacher at Lapel Elementary and Middle School for the past 17 years. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Visual Art Education from Ball State University, but honed in on her passion for drawing, painting, and printmaking. She also earned a Master's Degree in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University, focusing her research on therapeutic art-making practices.

Amanda is a juried member of the HCAA and has recently found more time and inspiration for creating her own artwork. At this point in her artistic journey, she is interested in portraying the human face, figure, and the spaces they occupy with nods to the Impressionism and Art Nouveau art movements. With her experience using a variety of two-dimensional art media, she finds herself moving from oil, to gouache, to charcoal and pastel frequently.

About the Class

Saturday, July 27th, 1-4pm. Calling all young artists aged 9-14! Get ready for an awesome adventure in art and storytelling! In this exciting workshop, we're going to learn how to make our very own mini masterpieces.

Have you ever heard of Curtis Santiago? He's an amazing artist who creates tiny worlds inside small boxes.
We'll take inspiration from his work to craft our own mini stories using polymer clay and little metal containers. During the workshop, we'll learn how to mold and shape our clay to create all the details of our stories. We'll use lots of colors, textures, and shapes to make our mini worlds come alive!

And guess what? At the end of the day, you'll get to take home your very own pocket-sized adventure in a box! So, come join us for a day of fun, creativity, and making new friends!
