The Hamilton County Artists' Association (HCAA) firmly believes in furthering greater awareness of, and encouragement for, the creative arts in Hamilton County. As part of this committment, HCAA has given a $1,000 Scholarship yearly to a Hamilton County graduating high school senior who plans to continue formal education in the Fine Arts.
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and support the next generation of professional visual artists by providing financial assistance for the formal study of art at the post-secondary level. These funds are for tuition only and will be paid directly to the institution where the scholarship recipient will be studying.
The application form must be received by the Scholarship Chairperson by the end of March and then the HCAA membership will vote on the artwork of the applicants at the April meeting. The scholarship winner will be notified by the end of April.

About The Scholarship Program
The Visual Arts Major Scholarship fund is governed and administered by The Hamilton County Artists’ Association. The number and amount of scholarships shall be determined each year by the HCAA Board.
The purpose of the Visual Arts Major Scholarship is to encourage and support the next generation of professional visual artists by providing financial assistance for the formal study of art at the post-secondary level.
· Two scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded in Spring, 2012, for school year 2012-2013. One half of the award will be distributed in the Fall Semester- 2012 and the remainder in the Spring Semester- 2013 (with proof of passing grades).
· The 2012 scholarship awards are made possible by a generous gift from Ken Bloomhorst in memory of his wife Roberta “Birdie” Bloomhorst.
· Scholarship funds are for tuition only. They are for future use, not for payment of past expenses or credit balances on accounts, and will be distributed in U.S. dollars directly to the institution where the student will study. Distribution will not be made directly to the student.
Application Form Deadline
The Application Form must be received by SATURDAY, MARCH 31, 2012.

Artwork Portfolio Delivery Deadline
· Each applicant must also submit a portfolio of original artwork. The portfolio must contain a minimum of three (3) pieces and a maximum of five (5) pieces -- in at least two different mediums. One piece must have been completed independently of art teacher assistance.
· All pieces must have been created since September, 2010.
· Clearly mark each piece with your name and telephone number. In addition, please clearly identify the piece that was done independently.
· Artwork is to be delivered to the HCAA Art Center on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, between the hours of 5:30 pm and 6:15pm. The Art Center is located at 195 S. Fifth St., Noblesville, IN 46060. (The HCAA membership will view the art work and vote for the scholarship recipients at the April 11, 2012 , meeting which starts at 7:00 pm). The applicants will be asked to pick up their art work at 9:00 pm that evening.
Selection Process
· Applicants will be judged primarily on artistic talent, and/or potential, and their degree of interest and enthusiasm for the visual arts.
· HCAA members will evaluate all application materials and choose the 2012 scholarship recipients. All applicants will be notified of the decision by April 28, 2012.
Applicant Responsibilities
The Visual Arts Major Scholarship applicant must:
· Be a U.S. citizen and resident of Hamilton County, Indiana.
· Graduate by July 1, 2012 from a high school located in Hamilton County (includes public and private schools or the equivalent).
· Plan to major in the field of visual arts as an art major. (For the purpose of this scholarship, visual arts means drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, fiber arts, glass art, ceramics, jewelry making (not stringing), metal crafting, wood working, and art education.)
· Provide the name and address of the institution where the student has been admitted and will be studying and the name of the institution’s contact person.
· Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from current or previous art teacher (school or community based).
· Submit a personal statement of two brief paragraphs describing why you are seeking this scholarship and what it will do for your education. Tell us how art has influenced you and how you hope to contribute to society through your art.
· Include a parent or guardian’s signature on the application form.

Eligibility for Spring Semester Payment
In order to receive the Spring Semester scholarship payment the Visual Arts Major Scholarship recipient must:
· Continue to major in the field of visual arts as an art major. (For the purpose of this scholarship, visual arts means drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, fiber arts, glass art, ceramics, jewelry making (not stringing), metal crafting, wood working, and art education.)
· By December 31, 2012, provide to HCAA the name and address of the institution where the student will be studying during Spring Semester and the name of the institution’s contact person.
